Chateau Cantemerle 2010

Chateau Cantemerle 2010

$35.00Price

One of the only three non-communal classified growths (with La Lagune and Cantenac), Château Cantemerle is located in Macau, a village due south of Margaux. Despite its classic claret spirit, it has an unusual connection to vineyards thousands of miles away. In the early 1980s, much of Cantemerle's Cabernet Franc was changed to Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot by top grafting. Mexican viticulturalists, specialists in this field, were flown in from the Napa Valley to carry out the procedure. Quite an extraordinary project

for a ‘mere' Haut Médoc.

  • Tasting

The aromas are full and complex with fine red berry and savoury notes, and on the palate ripe blackberry fruit is intermingled with mulberries and spices. The tannins are firm and structured. Over-all, very elegant and classy, and one of the best examples of this wine tasted en primeur.

  • Robert Parker's Review

Stunningly deep ruby/purple, with a beautiful nose of spring flowers intermixed with perfumed raspberry and blueberry notes, it exhibits a sort of cool-climate character. Broad, rich and intense on the palate, the wine has plenty of tannins, but they are sweet and well- integrated. Everything is delicately entwined into this beautiful, medium to full-bodied, dense purple wine, which shows stunning character and a prodigious potential for development. This is definitely a major sleeper of the vintage and even better than I thought from barrel. Robert M. Parker, Jr. - 28/02/2013
