Chateau Duhart Milon 2005
The vineyard of Château Duhart-Milon is almost a
block on the west side of Château Lafite Rothschild, on the hillside of Milon, which extends
the plateau of the Carruades de Lafite. Château Duhart-Milon's property includes 76 ha of vines. The soils are fine gravel mixed with Aeolian sands on a subsoil of tertiary limestone.
Tasting
Deep and concentrated on the palate, there's a nice freshness about this again, though it lacks the lightness and elegance of Carraudes perhaps - though does add a layer of broad, juicy plum fruit.
Vintage
2005 was the fourth consecutive year of deficit rainfall but the drought settled very early in May, allowing the vine to adapt by reducing its foliage. The high temperatures of June and July gradually declined in August and the cool nights kept good acidity for a slow maturity without blockages. An atypical climate year but ultimately ideal for the production of healthy grapes, very ripe and keeping a nice freshness.
93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"This property, which has benefitted enormously from tremendous investments from the Rothschild family that owns Lafite, has turned out a dense purple-colored wine in 2005. Offering broad, expansive, supple and silky tannin as well as loads of Asian plum sauce, blackcurrants, and sweet cherries, this wine is seductive, medium to full- bodied, and luscious.”
